I moved to Peru in April this year to teach English. I'm living in a tiny mountain town in Amazonas called Chachapoyas. The only way to describe this place is "bizarre". I quite love it here though and will probably stay a couple more months before moving on to explore farther corners of the world.
Since moving here my Spanish has improved only marginally (from nothing) thus making it difficult for me to communicate with as many locals as I would like. I did, however, meet an art teacher of the Institute of Art here in Chacha. An interesting character, to say the least and a fantastic painter, he has offered to take me under his wing and teach me to paint (oil on canvas) for the minimal cost of teaching him how to sing. I'm quite excited, although my erratic teaching schedule leaves me wondering where the fuck I'll fit these lessons in. I'm sure I'll find a way.
In other news I've been trying to get back into drawing again. So far I have done a self portrait and a sketch of my boyfriend. I've been requested to do a few more for friends, so perhaps my gallery will get a regular update like it once did in the past. I guess we'll have to see.
'Til later
